I don't know why, but ironically, there is something serene about the sight of a mushroom cloud. Wired magazine dub through the archives and documented the evolution of the atomic bomb, from the manhattan project to the ungodly Hiroshima detonation. Above is a photo of a test bombing on the island of Elugelab which was completely vaporized during this Hydrogen bomb test detonation. More photos can be seen via WIRED.
