Coraline | The Worlds Smallest Knitting

A film you've probably heard of, "Coraline" by Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick, is the first stop motion film to be made using stereoscopic 3D technology. Almost as intriguing as the movie itself is the film's youtube page which has short peces documenting various aspects of the film and it's fruition. Above is Althea Crome. She is noted as being the worlds smallest knitter. She hand knitted all of the miniature costumes used for all the dolls in the film. Her feature can be seen above as well as on the Coraline YouTube channel.

Chanel - The Silent Film (Teaser)

World renowned fashion designer and Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld recently premiered a short film in tribute to Chanel founder, Coco Chanel at the Le Ranelagh theater in Paris, France. The 10 minute silent stars Edita Vilkeviciute who portrays the young Coco from 1913, when the legendary designer first gave birth to the company bearing her name. Along with Vilkeviciute, the film features model Brad Koenig, Lady Amanda Harlech and the actual workers from the Chanel atelier used as actors to keep the authenticity to the visuals. The mini-film was shot in two days outside of a Paris movie studio. You can view the teaser trailer above.

Nike "Beautiul Losers" Dunk Collection

Nike has created a series of 22 dun his in commemoration of the August 8th premier of the beautiful losers full length film in NYC.

"Presented by NIKE SPORTSWEAR, the film chronicles the lives and creative process of artists including Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, Stephen Powers, Geoff McFetridge, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton, among others, whose DIY attitudes informed the aesthetics and ethos of their generation.

To further commemorate the film’s release, Nike’s Sportswear’s JESSE LEYVA has also created a series of 22 Beautiful Losers Dunks emblazoned with iconic stills from the movie using the company’s new high-resolution digital printing process. Says Aaron Rose of the project, “We went back to the documentary and pulled frame stills of what we felt were key moments in the narrative. We used these moments to tell the Beautiful Losers story using the shoes as a medium, with the end result being a collection of works of art.” Viewed together, the shoes reflect the overall narrative of the film, and after being exhibited at the NYC and LA “Make Something!” workshops, two sets of the shoes will be auctioned off with proceeds donated to the Children’s Aid Society." Stanley Kubrick "Boxes" Documentary

Boxes is a documentary on the late great filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. The movie tells a story through thousands of boxes filled with photos, letters, notes, newspaper clippings, meticulously sorted and documentated to tell a story of a film genius.

"Twelve years ago author and documentary filmmaker Jon Ronson received a call from a man named Tony. Tony was interested in obtaining a copy of Ronson did a documentary about the Holocaust for his employer, whose name he did not wish to reveal. After some cajoling Ronson finally extracted the gentleman's name. Turns out it was Stanley Kubrick.

That was the last Ronson heard until a few years after the legendary director's death when Tony called and asked if he would like to come poke around Kubrick's mansion. What Ronson found there was a cinemaphile's wet dream: thousands of boxes containing thousands of meticulously organized photos, memos and letters, years of Kubrick's career minutely categorized and filed. Ronson would spend five years sifting through them before they were carted off to their new home at the University of the Arts London.

What emerges is a portrait of a man who, to the outside observer, seems as if he was imprisoned by his obsessive need to manage all aspects of his work, a man who approached film with a watchmaker's precision. Here are hundreds of pictures of doorways in London for his film Eyes Wide Shut, photos of the actors in A Clockwork Orange wearing dozens of different hats, towering stacks of newspaper ads which he measured to make sure he was not being cheated out of a few millimeters, and footage of him, shot by his daughter, on the set of Full Metal Jacket directing the cast on the cadence of their genital fondling."

BMX mounted soundsystems: Made In Queens

Made In Queens is a short film that lifts the lid on an underground scene emerging in the outskirts of New York’s Queens borough (QB!). The film is Directed by Nicolas Randall and Joe Stevens, the film looks at a small group of Trinidadian teenagers who are obsessed with customizing their bmx bikes with obscenely massive sound systems (I use obscenely as a positive).



“In this age of obsessive video sharing and social networking, nearly every action is designed and packaged for public consumption. Especially with young people,” says co-director Joe Stevens. “The immediate charm of Nick and his crew is that they’re the exact opposite of all that. There is nothing calculated or self-conscious about who they are. They’re just a group of friends doing some thing to challenge themselves and have some laughs. It’s a story which would have never come from kids who were born here.”

“I made the video as a final piece for my degree show. It’d been an idea which was burning for a while, so the actual execution of it only took around a week, although there were a few all-nighters. It was such a tight deadline, as I also had the rest of my degree show to finish in that time too.”

“When In Rainbows was released, the song Nude brought back this recurring idea of mine, as it was a perfect fit. Luckily, a few weeks later Radiohead launched the radiohead remix contest, which supplied each of the elements (bass, vocals, drums etc) of Nude, as separate unmixed audio files to play around with. I couldn’t believe my luck and started getting to work."

Sadly this piece was created a little too late to enter the Radiohead remix contest, but Houston has recieved critical acclaim from Radiohead, who have even gone on and put the video on their website. This is honestly one of the coolest things i've seen in a while. Talk about thinking outside the box.
