Honda "Puyo"

Photobucket

Honda’s new concept vehicle called ‘Puyo’ is a glow in the dark, hydrogen fuel cell vehicle desgined without any hard edges. The vehicle operates with a joystick rather than a steering wheel, and has a completely translucent dome-like enclosing. The vehicle is surrounded by a silicone “gel body” that literally glows in the dark, and contains an interior that spins a full 360 degrees so that the car never needs to reverse. This automobile vehicle is actually slated to be released in just 3 years time in 2011 thanks to the Japanese car maker. If this thing actually sees the light of day it would be remarkable to drive this. You can view more photos here

Peugeot concept vehicles

Photobucket

These vehicles are all entries in the Peugeot Design Contest 2008. Designers were asked to create a concept car for the cities of the future, concentrating on environmental awareness, social harmony, interactive mobility and economic efficiency.

Above is Ying Hui Choo's Peugeot Blade, designed for 'pure driving enjoyment', it actually has a wind turbine attached to the back to charge its electric battery.

Michael Witus Schierup of Denmark says his Peugeot Verde is designed to be able to change its length depending on the environment it is being used in. It has three settings: Highway, Urban and Park. In Highway mode it extends to its full length - about 16ft 5ins. In Urban it compacts itself to about 12ft . Finally, in Park mode it shrinks further to take up as little space as possible

Ke Guo, of China, has designed an aerodynamic 'water drop-shaped vehicle' inspired by Formula One. The PRO has a windscreen which doubles as an opening cockpit and gives 180 degree visibility

Emre Yazici's lightweight 'EGO' runs on just two wheels and is driven using a joystick rather than a steering wheel. Mr Yazici, from Turkey, says the single-passenger electric car needs just a third of the parking space used by a typical modern saloon and can do a u-turn on the spot. The flexible windshield also operates as a door by rolling back into the drum at the back of the car

BMW Art Car Exhibition “Transparent Speed”

Photobucket
Japanese architect June Aoki recently unveiled his installation for BMW's famous Art Car Exhibition entitled "Transparent Speed" in Tokyo at the Mori Arts Center. The show was based on the ”idea to have cars floating high up in the sky”. Aoki wanted to show speed without the constraints of resistance. In order to help achieve this 10,000 transparent polycarbonate pipes filled the gallery as they were strung from different heights from the ceiling. This was done to have the feeling of air moving throughout the gallery. You see more images as well as a detailed look into the art car exhibition via Wallpaper

Audi-O Concept Car

Photobucket
This is Audi's "Audi-O" concept car designed by Odrej Jirec. It's design has been inspired by various Apple products. The car's design feautures a stand out LED headlight unit and an amazing piece of glass framed by red tail lights in addition to the windscreen which doubles as the roof. The car features an amazing sound system, which would be able to connect to similar cars via bluetooth. The Audi-O also comes equipped with a set of turntables. Like you really need them. Aside from all the technological perks the car comes with the aesthetic design is very impressive. via Autoblog.

This year’s fourteen graduates from the Royal College of Art are Competing for the 2008 Pilkington Automotive Vehicle Design award, their projects ranged from a fresh take on eco-design to finding new ways of expressing personalisation. A couple of the students even challenged the status quo by designing boats for an imaginary future destroyed by global warming. Above is Jon Radbrink’s "Nuaero".

In Deutschland, Veritas

Photobucket
More than 50 years ago, a handful of BMW employees went rogue and began building racing cars based on prewar Bimmers. They dubbed the line Veritas, and built about 75 vehicles before shutting down the operation in 1952. Then in 2001, a handful of enthusiasts resuscitated the name for the RS III concept (pictured), and now Autoblog reports the car will finally be produced later this year. It'll carry a tuned version of BMW's 5-liter V-10 under the hood, good for 600 horsepower and a 0-to-60 time of 3.2 seconds. It probably won't come cheap—only 50 will be made

A Train that never stops

The above video (note: it's in Taiwanese), demonstrates a rather interesting concept by Taiwanese inventor Peng Yu-Lun for a train that never stops. He correctly points out that trains would be far more efficient (and on-time) if they didn't have to go through the trouble of, you know, stopping to pick up passengers, Unfortunately, at present not stopping for passengers would mean, well, no passengers. Yu-Lun's design solves that problem with a kind of "top-mounted boarding shuttle that is scooped up when the train passes one station and automatically deposited when it reaches the next stop." See the video to get a better sense of how it would work.

Versace edition Lamborghini LP640 Roadster

Photobucket

Lamborghini and Versace have teamed up again to offer a special edition of Lamborghini's Murcielago LP640. As you would expect from a Versace Lamborghini, all the stops were pulled out to ensure the utmost luxury and extravagance. The bright white exterior of the car is plastered with Versace's Greek motif, while the interior has full-grain, hand-embroidered, white nappa leather on the seats, dashboard and center console. The Versace edition Murcielago also gets a transparent engine cover that showcases the V12 for the first time. The special edition, unveiled tuesday at Versace's Via Gesu 12 in Milan during Men's Fashion Week, was accompanied by a new range of Lamborghini Versace merchandise, including leather luggage, gloves, driving shoes and an assortment of other accessories. Unlike the Versace Lamborghini collaboration in 2006, this run of cars will be available to the public..... but you will not be able to afford it.

BMW GINA Light Visionary Model

Photobucket

BMW has just presented a visionary fabric car model that embodies BMW’s design philosophy of ‘doing things differently’. The project has been named “GINA”, which stands for ‘geometry and function in an infinite number of alternatives’. Having been on the forefront of design innovation in the automotive industry for many years, the latest design innovation from the German automaker is a car. Instead of having metal panels, its skin is made of a flexible fabric material stretched over a mechanically movable frame, and hence the shape of the car can be changed.
This design project will hope to create a substantial impact to change the way people think about cars as well as allowing designers to ‘free up their minds’ to look at different methods of automotive design.

BMW Hydrogen 7

Hydrogen 7

This is the fully hyrdrogen powered BMW 7. You may remember a previous version of this which was a bi-fuel vehicle which ran on hydrogen with a gas reserve, this one is purely hydrogen powered. The best part about this vehicle however is that the car's engine actually CLEANS THE ENVIRONMENT. The exhaust has lower amounts of non-methane organic gases and carbon monoxide than regular air. No joke. A 7 series beemer with a. v-12 that cleans environment? With a luxury automobile powerhouse like BMW producing hydrogen fueled cars with V-12s, OPEC better start rolling back prices. Detroit really needs to step their game up.
